For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Why do people need salvation? The Bible reveals that mankind has offended God. Our sins have broken the relationship we need with God. Everyone has sinned (Romans 3:23) and has broken God’s standard as set forth in the Bible. God made sure that people understood His holy standard by setting in stone as the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17). The first four of the Ten Commandments speak about our relationship with God. The last six of the Ten Commandments reveal how God expects man to treat each other. In the New Testament, Jesus explains many of the Ten Commandments. The sixth commandment states “Thou shalt not kill.” Jesus explains that hatred in the heart towards another is murder in God’s eyes (Matthew 5:21-22). Have you ever hated someone? In the sight of God, you have committed murder. The seventh commandment states, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” In the New Testament Jesus says that if you look upon a woman and lust, you have already committed adultery in your heart. (Matthew 5:27-30). Have you ever looked at another person and lusted in your heart? If you have, God calls you an adulterer. The eighth commandment states, “Thou shalt not steal.” Have you ever stolen anything during your life? By God’s standards you are a thief. The ninth commandment reveals that we are not to lie. Have you ever told a lie? Even if you tell a small lie, in God’s eyes you are a liar. The tenth commandment shows that God does not want us to covet. Coveting is lusting after the possessions of others. Have you ever felt yourself obsessed with having things? By God’s standards you are a sinner. James 2:10 points out that even if you break the law in one point, you have broken the whole law. We are sinners. How does a person become saved? How can a person receive God’s forgiveness? God does not want people to suffer in hell for eternity because of sin (2 Peter 3:9). He has provided a way for us to be forgiven so that you can know you have eternal life (1 John 5:11-13). Romans 3:24-25 tells us that Jesus Christ took our place and paid the penalty of our sin. In Romans 10:9-10 we are told that we must turn from our sin to God and ask for His salvation. We cannot experience His forgiveness until we do this. Confess your sins to God and ask Him to forgive you. He has promised to save those who call upon Him for salvation.
